Renaissance Printing – DTP Font Book

The DTP Font Book is a catalog of commercially licensed and open-source fonts that has become an indispensable tool for designers and clients alike. This reference guide offers quick identification of fonts when working from customer samples and allows customers to select typefaces for their projects. Given the content and purpose of the book, the cover obviously required special typographic treatment. The custom geometric font was created using a grid pattern of 0.5 inch squares on a letter size sheet. The equidistant strokes and counters of the font provide balance, repetition and a sense of asymmetry. The words DTP and BOOK were placed below the f and above the t, respectively, to occupy some of the empty space. Their orientation helps to reinforce how the cover is read. The white background was selected so that the book can stand out when laying on top of our black counters, while the red was chosen to give the cover a splash of color.
